DJ: How do you move videos from Windows Media Player to a folder on your computer?
I made a video with my dads camera that records on Mini DVDs. I need to edit, but the only program that the videos play on is Windows Media Player. I want to edit them using Windows Movie Maker, but I don’t know how to move the files.

It’s not a case of moving the videos, sweetheart … and I offer that as a general term of endearment. It is NOT intended to be offensive, obnoxious, condescending, or sexist … though, I must admit, I have yet to use it to an adult male, apart from my own two grown up sons and one of their friends who I’ve unofficially ‘adopted’. What you need to do is convert the videos into a format that can be handled by Windows Movie Maker.
The following file types are the ones supported by Windows Movie Maker:
Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf
Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
Unfortunately, you haven’t told us which types of files the videos are currently in. (You can tell by looking at the suffix … the letters after the full stop [period, if you're one of my American cousins].)
One very useful programme that can convert multiple audio, video, and picture formats is FormatFactory. The good news is, this is a FREE programme.
You can download FormatFactory from the following website.
Hopefully, this programme will be able to convert the video files from your dad’s camera to one that you can successfully import into Windows Movie Maker.
I hope you have fun with your video editing.
