Question by Student: How can I improve my vocal range?
I would like to increase my vocal range but I’m not really worried about that right now because I can reach some high-ish notes (C5-E5 on good days) but a lot of my notes past E4 are strained, is it possible for me to be capable of reaching some higher notes (at least A4) without straining much on my vocal cords?

I know you don’t want to hear this, but you may not EVER be able to sing that high (presuming you mean A5, not A4). It depends on what kind of voice you have. Some people have medium or low range voices. How low can you get without straining? The only way you are going to improve your overall range is by taking voice lessons. A qualified vocal instructor should train all of your range, whatever that may be. You should be concentrating on singing well-of producing beautiful, but not necessarily, high tones.
When you learn how to use your singing voice in a healthy and natural manner, your upper range will improve. But, not everyone’s upper range is the same as everyone else.
Look, I’m a classically trained soprano. I can easily sing high notes that most people do strain on. But that’s my voice type. However, I can’t reach up to the heights I would need to sing a role like “Lakme” or “Lucia”. My voice is flexible enough to do runs and trills, but no amount of training will extend my upper range any more than what is there. In fact, as I aged I lost some of my upper range. When I was young enough to be able to pop out those F’s in the Queen of Night arias, I was too young and inexperienced to actually sing it like it was supposed to be sung. I still take voice lessons, however, because it helps to “stay on my game” and I can get coaching if I need to learn something new and/or difficult.
Don’t believe website claims that they can extend “ANYONE’s” range by an octave. And all you have to do is keep buying their DVDs, books, and CDs. These fakers also will tell you that other voice teachers won’t help you because they don’t have their “secrets”.

Im currently deployed, Kindle broke, getting a replacement is not an option for me. I should clarify that I do not have internet access on my personal computer. Seems like something simple im just missing? Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
